Best Buy moving to mobile training

So I just found out the other day that Best Buy is currently developing a portal to access all of their trainings through android devices that support flash 10.1. The roll out isn't scheduled until the end of the summer, and by then a lot of devices running older versions of android, will recieve the 2.2 update (such as the Moto Droid). Their idea behind this is to help employees find more time to access and complete trainings.

Saba is a new learning management utility. This image is from the Saba website. It is essentially like blackboard, but provides built in functions that blackboard does not offer. Some of these features, as you can see, include real-time collaboration, and other useful tools, that have to be installed, or purchased seperatley with other utilities. They also offer the choice of hosting on your own servers, or on theirs, which for some companies may be necessary depending on their specific processing power. This system may, or may not take off, we'll just have to wait and see. But, it does look like a very intuitive application.

Training utilities, no matter the method of delivery, all have one common goal. That is, to deliver pertinant information in an effective way that allows the student to learn the material. Some trends that are taking place, are obviously e-learning taking the place of traditional classroom instruction. In most cases, e-learning is cheaper to deliver, and just as effective. An issue comes in (mostly in workforce instruction) with e-learning when the students are allowed to "retake" e-learnings, which is almost every time in the workforce. The employees do not learn anything with this approach. They will just memorize clicks, or response position, and not the actual content. A good site to reference good tips, and useful tools for training, is http://www.bizlibrary.com/
